MLB Picks for Thursday

C- Ryan Doumit MIN- Doumit is playing very well in the last two weeks. His average over that time is .344 with 2 home runs. Those are some good numbers for a catcher on a day where there is little to choose from.

1B- Yonder Alonso SD- We aren't sure why Alonso is under 5K, but we love it today. He has 5 hits in his last 3 games including 2 doubles. Today he is facing a right handed pitcher who we haven't even heard of. That's usually a good play.

2B- Brandon Phillips CIN- Phillips has really turned it up as of late. His numbers during the last two weeks look like this: .321, 2 home runs, 9 RBI, and 8 runs. He is facing a solid righty in Delgado, but we like how Phillips has been swinging recently more than we like how Delgado has pitched this season.

3B- David Wright NYM- Wright is hitting amazing in the last two weeks hitting at a .447 clip with a home run. He has some decent RBI and runs scored numbers too (9/8). He is facing a lefty today in Stults which makes us love this pick even more.

SS- Ronny Cedeno NYM- Cedeno is among a thin group of shortstops to choose from today. The numbers from all of the guys available are pretty weak or if they are decent then they are expensive. In Cedeno, we found a .286 hitter over the last two weeks with a home run for the price of just over 4K. He is averaging the 3rd most fantasy points per game over that time among all shortstops available.

OF- Carlos Beltran STL- Beltran is our highest priced hitter on our squad today. He is hitting .300 with 4 home runs and 11 RBI in the last two weeks. Today he faces Blanton who had a rough outing his last time out. Beltran is a good pick for those of you who have money available.

OF- Melky Cabrera SF- Cabrera is also hitting over .400 in the last two weeks (.439) with a home run and 11 runs scored. He is hitting great as you can tell and will be swinging from the left side today. He is hitting .326 from the left side this season.

OF- Mike Trout LAA- With the emergence of Bryce Harper, everyone has forgotten to show some love for Trout. He is hitting . 357 over the last two weeks with 3 home runs, 10 RBI, and 112 runs scored. Throw in the 5 stolen bases over that time and you're looking at 5.18 fantasy points per game. Yea, that's good.

SP- Dan Haren LAA- Haren is starting to turn the tide and become the pitcher he has always been the last several seasons. His stats as of late might not look like it, but we think it's about to happen. He is facing an average offense today as he is pitching against the Mariners. Yesterday they scored 5 runs off of the Rangers, and 4 of them were off a grand slam. That's not going to happen again.

SP- Jason Vargas SEA- I know what you're thinking.. Why did we just pick pitchers that are facing off against each other? Well, on this small schedule day we almost had to. We don't like too many other pitchers and let's face it, Vargas has pitched well as of late. The Angels offense isn't that great right now, and although we like Trout and Pujols (for his 6K price), we don't think they put up more than 3 runs today.

RP- Scott Downs LAA- Today we expect a low scoring game between the Angels and Mariners. It's going to be a close one in our opinion. We like the game to end up at 3-2 by the time the 9th inning comes around. Downs is cheap and a great play today.
