MLB Picks for Wednesday

C- Buster Posey SF- Posey had yesterday off, so we don't think there's any way he sits today. He has a solid matchup today hitting at Coors Field against an average pitcher. Yes, Guthrie had a very good opening day start, but it was versus the Astros. This Giants offense is hitting well scoring 4, 4, and 6 runs against the Diamondbacks to start the season.

Other Catchers: Alex Avila DET, Josh Thole NYM

1B- Prince Fielder DET- This is an obvious pick here. Fielder is hitting .400 with 2 home runs, 4 RBI, and 5 runs scored so far. That's 6.19 fantasy points per game. Fielder is facing the righty James Shields who had a rough first outing against the Yankees. It's safe to say the Tigers have as good as if not a better offense than the Yankees. If Shields isn't on then Fielder and company are going to have a day.

Other First Basemen: Bryan LaHair CHC, Eric Hosmer KC

2B- Robert Andino BAL- Andino is hitting very well for the O's so far this season. He has at least 1 hit in 4 of the 5 games so far this season. He is facing a lefty tonight in CC Sabathia. Andino has 3 doubles on the year all of them coming in the last two games.

Other Second Basemen: Dustin Ackley SEA, Chris Getz KC

3B- Pablo Sandoval SF- Sandoval is hitting .375 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs so far this season. To go along with his great stats he is hitting in Colorado tonight against a righty (Guthrie). We like the Giants to score 5-6 runs tonight against Guthrie who we don't think will repeat his first start performance.

Other Third Basemen: Edwin Encarnacion TOR

SS- Rafael Furcal STL- Furcal is a great start right now. He is arguably one of the hottest hitters for average. Obviously Furcal provides no power to your lineup, but when you're hitting .435 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs then it doesn't matter. The Cardinals offense is hitting well and because of that Furcal's value keeps moving up.

Other Shortstops: Erick Aybar LAA, Zach Cozart CIN

OF-  Austin Jackson DET- We are huge fans of Jackson, so it might be considered Homerism to make this pick, but after looking at the stats you can't deny it. Every time he reaches base it seems like he's going to score because of how potent Miggy/Prince are right now. Jackson is hitting .563 right now and hit his first home run of the year. Don't expect another home run today against Shields, but don't think facing a great RHP will phase him either.

OF- Josh Hamilton TEX- Hamilton is a great hitter and honestly could be on this list every day he plays. Today we feel it's necessary because of his matchup against Kevin Millwood. He is at home tonight against a pitcher who isn't a power pitcher. Expect Hamilton to add to his slugging numbers today.

OF- Juan Rivera LAD- Rivera has seen regular time so far this season in left field for the Dodgers. When the Dodgers find someone capable of hitting right hand pitchers this will stop, but don't expect anyone to replace Rivera against lefties. Rivera has always been a platoon OF who crushes lefties. Expect the same tonight against Bedard and the Pirates.

SP- Jered Weaver LAA- We try to find cheaper options for starting pitching, but Weaver is too enticing. Weaver is a strikeout pitcher coming off a great performance last week against the Royals. We expect more of the same tonight at Minnesota. Pitching in a terrible place to hit will benefit Weaver greatly tonight.

SP- Bruce Chen KC- BEWARE OF RAIN OUT POSSIBILITY: Chen is facing the A's tonight in Oakland. The last two parts of that sentence are very enticing for a starting pitcher in fantasy baseball. When you realize we are talking about Bruce Chen you start to quiver. We actually like Chen tonight a lot. As long as Chen pounds the zone and avoids Yoenis in the lineup we really think Chen can go 6 strong with 1-2 runs scored. That's a great line for an 8.7K pitcher.

RP- Jonathan Broxton KC- BEWARE OF RAIN OUT POSSIBILITY: Broxton is a great pick for us because we really like the Royals to win today. We also think it's going to be a low scoring game. The Royals and A's don't have enough offensive firepower to put up 5-6 runs consistently in a place like Oakland. The Royals have some great hitters, but we think McCarthy will use the park to his advantage and be pretty good today.

RP- Jonathan Papelbon PHI- We might take Papelbon every game that Halladay pitches. Halladay pitching means a guaranteed low scoring game because the Phillies can't score enough runs right now without Utley and Howard to make it a blowout. For those reasons we like the game to be in the Phillies favor by the end of it.

Weather Alerts:
Kansas City at Oakland: More rain in the forecast. 50% chance of rain throughout the game. With an early start time though, there might be a chance of pushing the game back and waiting it out.
