MLB Picks for Tuesday

C- Brayan Pena KC- Pena is a cheap play today and with the money we spent on starting pitchers we wanted to go cheap on this position. We know Pena is going to play (and if for some reason he doesn't Quintero is even cheaper), so it won't disrupt our lineup if there is a lineup we aren't expecting. He's a switch hitting catcher who is hitting .375 in limited at bats so far this season.

Other Catchers: Carlos Santana CLE, Matt Wieters BAL

1B- Bryan LaHair CHC- LaHair is seeing the ball well at the plate hitting in 6 of the last 7 games and moving his batting average close to .350. He has two home runs on the season, and his power numbers could move up considering the matchup against the righty Josh Johnson. The only thing we don't like is the fact it's at Miami, but as we saw from Hanley Ramirez the other night the ball can fly out of there with the right hitter.

Other First Basemen: Mat Gamel MIL, Adrian Gonzalez BOS

2B- Kelly Johnson TOR- Johnson is swinging it very well right now, and has some of the best protection in the game behind him. Jose Bautista and Lind/Encarnacion is a pretty solid 3-4 behind a guy like Johnson who feasts on fastballs. We will never pay his high price against a lefty, but against Niemann a righty for the Rays, we like him.

Other Second Basemen: Omar Infante MIA

3B- Alex Rodriguez NYY- Arod isn't a usual pick for us here at OSF, but for some reason we are really feeling him against Liriano and the Twins. It might be because of how bad Liriano looked in his last outing, and it might be because he's a lefty that throws mostly fastballs because of his control problems. At 7K we are willing to take the risk tonight.

Other 3B- Brett Lawrie TOR, David Freese STL

SS- Brendon Crawford SF- Don't look now, but Crawford has been swinging a pretty good bat as of late. He hits low in the Giants lineup which isn't something we are too fond of, but if he has a single and a walk he has pretty much paid for his value. 4K is a great price for this shortstop who has been feeling it as of late.

Other Shortstops: Jhonny Peralta DET

OF- Austin Jackson DET- Jackson has been on base every game this season, and has hit for a little bit of power. He hit a 400 foot home run off of the hard throwing Duffy yesterday, and is facing the softer throwing Chen tonight. We like him to continue that streak and get a run scored or two as we see a higher scoring game out of Detroit.

OF- Emilio Bonifacio MIA- Bonifacio is facing Dempster who can get wild at times. If this happens it could mean plenty of stolen bases for him and the Marlins. He's also hitting the ball very well and could get a hit or two off of the above average righty Dempster.

OF- Matt Diaz NYM- Diaz is a lefty killer, and he's facing one of his favorite pitchers in Johan tonight. He is a lifetime .500 off of him and we love to see that. His 5K price is great for today's lineup. It's not our favorite thing to do to pick platoon hitters that don't see every day action, but with the way he hit against the Brewers and Randy Wolf the other day, we think he'll be alright in an even better matchup.

SP- Madison Bumgarner SF- Bumgarner should be a good pick to throw 7 solid innings with about 5 Ks or so. He's facing a weak Phillies lineup, and he will make it tough on the Phillies to steal bases. We like that a lot about this pick seeing as how the Phillies have to produce runs instead of just hitting home runs. We expect a win here against the Phillies too.

SP- Dan Haren LAA- Haren isn't a 13K pitcher like he is currently priced. He has struggled to start the season, but we like for him to get back on track against the A's. This should be a good matchup for him considering the guys who have dominated this weak lineup in the past week (Noesi the one that comes to mind). Haren should be good for a high K rate with his solid fastball offspeed combo.

RP- Sergio Romo SF- Romo is a good pick today the way the Giants and Phillies hit the baseball. These two teams are usually in 4-5 run ball games for each team at worst. We like this for the save possibility that could happen. We think the Giants win, and we also think they call on Romo to get the save instead of Casilla.
