MLB Picks for Sunday

C- Alex Avila DET- Avila is coming off back to back games with an extra base hit. One of off a lefty (Lester) and the "stud" righty Beckett. He's clearly seeing it well, so we like him again this time against Buchholz

Other Catchers: AJ Ellis LAD, Brian McCann ATL

1B- Brandon Belt SF- The young lefty Belt should have a good day against a guy like Collementer. He is a changeup throwing righty who won't overpower anyone. Belt obviously has a bunch of talent, and if he is going to be successful against anyone it should be like him.

Other 1B: Joey Votto CIN, Carlos Pena TB

2B- Ian Kinsler TEX- Kinsler seems to be the hottest second basemen in the league right now. It's a weak position, but still pretty impressive to be the best at your position for the team being. Stay with the hot hand if you can afford him.

Other Second Basemen: Dan Uggla ATL, Mark Ellis LAD

3B- Miguel Cabrera DET- Let's be real. Yesterday's game was impressive. A 2 home run game is impressive let alone 2 home runs off of Josh Beckett. He's a lock for positive points, and is the best hitter in the game. Buchholz isn't as good as Beckett, and because of that we like Miggy even more.

Other Third Basemen: Pablo Sandoval SF, David Freese STL

SS- Erick Aybar LAA- Aybar hits in a great lineup that is going to score some runs. With guys like Pujols hitting behind him he is a lock for plenty of runs scored. Sanchez is a good lefty, but Aybar is a switch hitter that has great speed.

Other Shortstop: Ian Desmond WAS, Zach Cozart CIN

OF- Jay Bruce CIN- Bruce already has shown his power this season, and it won't be the last of his power hitting ways. He's a great young hitter that is underrated because of how great Votto is in the same linup. Zambrano always has a chance to blow up, and guys like Votto and Bruce might be the reason for it today.

OF- Adam Jones BAL- Jones has two straight days of extra base hits hitting his first home run of the year yesterday. Facing another average pitcher from Minnesota should be good for his slugging percentage.

OF- Matt Joyce TB- Joyce is a much better hitter against righties than lefties. Yesterday he hit in the 4 hole against a righty in Kuroda, so we expect him to be in the same spot against Hughes. Just look at his numbers last season. Facing a righty we love Joyce almost 100% of the time. Against lefties we won't ever touch him.

SP- Jonatahn Niese NYM- There aren't a lot of good options tomorrow when it comes to starting pitching. We don't like the Braves offense at all, and we think Niese is a solid pitcher for a cheap price. At worst we see Niese giving up 3 runs in 6 innings. And even then, that is bad for the way the Braves hit.

SP- Vance Worley PHI- Worley is another solid Philly pitcher facing the bad Pirates. We like the Phillies to win, and we think that the Pirates offense isn't good enough to get many runs off of many really. Can't beat the low price of Worley.

RP- Jim Johnson BAL- Baltimore and Minnesota is going to be a sloppy game. It's not going to be enjoyable to watch, but we think it's going to remain close with the O's on top. That in itself is enough reason to go with Johnson here.

RP- Frank Francisco NYM- The Mets should win this one with the way the Braves are playing. One thing we definitely know is that it's going to be a close game. These two teams overall are not that great, but we like Niese tomorrow, so that's enough reason to think Francisco should get the save.
